RinkWater - 2 New Systems: Much to our excitement, RinkWater Systems will be installing two (2) new RinkWater services this fall. One will be installed in Lethbridge's Legacy Regional Park and will be used to re-surface a pond that will be used for pleasure skating. The other, which also includes a dedicated irrigation controller (to irrigate the surrounding landscape in the summer months), will be installed in Saskatoon's Kensington Village Square. Stay tuned for updates on these RinkWater installations.


Islamic Gardens: Located at the University of Alberta's Devonian Botanical Gardens in Devon, AB, this site is spectacular. Ion worked with Nelson Byrd Wolz Landscape Architects out of Charlottesville, VA and provided our irrigation expertise and knowledge of local conditions to design an irrigation system for their landscape.

Official inauguration of the site took place on October 16, 2018 and was attended by His Highness the Aga Khan. Ion plans on featuring this project on our website during the summer of 2019.


Royal Alberta Museum: The Royal Alberta Museum celebrated it's Grand Opening on October 3, 2018!! Ion's involvement with The Royal Alberta Museum began in 2006 when our proposal for irrigation design services was submitted. By 2007 we had begun modelling for the Irrigation Water Requirement and had performed the preliminary LEED® calculations.

City of Calgary - RFSO: Ion is pleased to announce being selected as one of two service providers for the City of Calgary's "Landscape Irrigation Design Services Program". Ion has been working with the City of Calgary for numerous years, on projects of all sizes and scopes, and look forward to our continued project success.


City of Lethbridge - Henderson Park: Ion has been awarded the irrigation design work for Henderson Park in Lethbridge, AB. The firm knows this park well. In 2015, Ion conducted an "Irrigation System Audit and Assessment" for Henderson Park, and now look forward to being involved on the design side of this park's irrigation system upgrade.


New Central Library: The landscape design of this unique LEED® project is focused on water conservation. The non-potable irrigation system uses stored rainwater (from an internal 38,000 Litre cistern) and delivers water to the drought tolerant landscaping through sub-surface drip irrigation.

Ion assisted Dialog Design in the submission of a Code Variance application to get this progressive irrigation system approved by the City of Calgary. The landscape has recently been planted and we look forward to seeing it flourish in the spring of 2019.

In December 2013, the City of Calgary implemented amendments to their Stormwater Management & Design Manual based partly on the draft Module 4: Stormwater Capture & Reuse prepared by Ion Irrigation Management and Urban Systems. The Calgary Soccer Centre, the first project conforming to the stormwater flow and volume control restrictions, was commissioned in October 2014. Calgary Water Resources called the technique of dispersing stormwater via biomass transpiration an "elegant solution".


ion commissions for the City of Edmonton the 1-hectare MacEwen NLRT Station/Park located on the north porch of the new Oilers Arena. The system features a sub-surface cistern and VFD pump to capture and reuse stormwater for irrigation with 5,000 metres of dripline.


Phase 1 irrigation at the 275-home Artesia of Heritage Pointe community was commissioned and attained Construction Completion.

The rainwater harvesting system features several green roofs and a 3-storey tall internal cistern. Casey Mahan is pleased to announce that Regan Hackworthy, B.A., CID, CGIA, has joined the firm and will be integral to supporting our expansion into the BC market. Since 2004, Regan has been the Irrigation Superintendent for a major Okanagan landscaper and a designer for a Kelowna-based irrigation consultant. Regan has several IIABC certifications plus the Lo-Voltage Electrical Certificate.

ion acquires the Motorola ICC central control system to support our fast-growing irrigation management division. The Motorola system is employed by Parks departments in Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Vancouver and Whistler. ion is the first consultancy in Canada to own and operate this coveted SCADA tool, which will be extremely helpful for the ever-increasing list of projects requiring customized solutions to manage green roofs, a wide variety of environmental sensors and to integrate with stormwater management systems.
